Your Brain on Ink -
Neurodivergent-Friendly Journaling
Friday, Mar 20, 1:00-2:30
Free with admission to the Arkansas PEN SHOW

"Journaling" can be repetitive or overwhelming – or you might feel like your worst English teacher is judging your work. Ruth has lots of tricks and tools that are active, simple, rewarding – and that engage your brain instead of frustrating you.

Meanwhile, anyone who already does journaling can use these techniques to refresh and expand your practice. Bring a pen you can write QUICKLY with, or choose from Ruth’s buffet of materials.

All levels of experience are welcome - teens and up.
Stress-Busting with your Journal
Saturday, Mar 21, 12:00-1:30
Free with admission to the Arkansas PEN SHOW

We’re all dealing with stress, and we often feel trapped with them. Let your pen lead you to a fresh approach for any stressor that’s been bothering you. When this session ends, you’ll feel how “journaling” can be an active process to help you move through problems, instead of just recording what’s going on.
Completely private – No pressure to share. Bring a pen you can write QUICKLY with, or choose from Ruth’s buffet of materials. All levels of experience are welcome - teens and up.

Structured Journaling
for Reflective Practice
& Self-Directed Growth
Thursday, Mar 19, 8:30-12:00
Free with admission to the SWAC Conference

This session will introduce basic concepts and the structured systems developed by Pennebaker, Adams, and Progoff. Resources for particular challenges and conditions will be reviewed. In an experiential hour, each participant will follow a sequence of writing prompts to process a personal or professional stressor. This will give you direct experience with the contained, supportive, private structure developed by Adams, and help you envision how you might incorporate these tools into your work and life.
SWAC's statewide conference welcomes social workers, allied professionals, and students. See https://www.swactioncoalition.org/ to register.
Single-day tickets to the conference are $135.23. (Thursday's ticket covers up to 8 hours of CE credits for Social Work; other professions should check their Board's requirements.)
Currently-enrolled students in BSW or MSW programs can attend all three days for $55.20.
Location: Embassy Suites Hotel, 11301 Financial Centre Parkway in west Little Rock.
